Q. Can I use this character
skirt for the Royal Academy of Dancing grade examinations?
A. Yes, Lillys character skirts are
a perfect regulation character skirt.
Q. Is this character skirt what I need for
the American Academy of Ballet Performance Awards?
A. Yes, these skirts are excellent for the
Performance Awards.
Q. What color ribbons can I choose?
A. Dancers need to check with their dance
teachers, to see if there is a school color combination that is required. If
there are no recommendations from the teacher, there are 23 different ribbon
colors to select from. A dancer might want to consider what color leotard she
most often wears, as well as what color leotard might be worn next year, for
help in making a decision. The colors are listed on this site, however as there
are variations between different computer monitors, for accuracy you can always
call or e-mail and well be happy to send you actual ribbon samples.
Q. How do I decide between closures, Velcro
or hook & eye?
A. For greater growth allowance (hook &
eye can easily be moved) and most security (over time the Velcro picks up lots
of lint that will effect its performance) Lillys preference is hook &
eye. However, if the dancer is very young and will have trouble handling a hook
& eye closure, select the Velcro. (Always make sure to close the Velcro
before putting skirt in your ballet bag.)
Q. What is the proper way to measure?
A. We need a waist measurement and a finished
length measurement to make your character skirt.
The waist measurement should be taken with good posture, standing
tall but not holding your stomach in. If you would like, wed be happy
to add an extra eye to the skirt, (no charge) so that you have growing room
built into the skirt. If you would like an extra eye sewn on, state the actual
measurement and a second measurement adding 1 inch.
Example: If the dancer's actual waist measurement is 25", write
25/26 on the order form. Put a check mark on the "hook & eye"
closure, and well sew 2 eyes, one at 25" and another at 26".
The standard length for a character skirt is mid calf. You can not properly measure your own length because you need to stand straight in order to be accurate. It is best to have someone else do it for you, measuring from the waist down to the middle (widest part) of the calf. Please note that some teachers prefer the skirts a little shorter and some a little longer so its best to check with your own teacher before you measure.
Q. How long will it take for my skirt to
be delivered?
A. Delivery time is 3 weeks from the time your
order is received. During the fall, which is our busiest time, delivery can
be 4 weeks. Should you need your skirt sooner, call and let us know.
Q. How do I care for my skirt?
A. Your skirt must be washed separately in cool water the first time you wash it. After the first washing your skirt can be luandered with like colors in cool water. It is best
to hang the skirt to dry and then iron. If you have chosen a Velcro
closure it is important that the Velcro be closed during washing. The skirt may also be dry cleaned.
Q. Do you accept credit cards?
A. Please send a check or money order made
payable to Lilly Rosado with your order. No credit cards are accepted at this
time.
Q. What if my question is not listed here?
A. Please call or e-mail and we'll be happy
to answer any questions you have.
